Ramdaspur, as Amritsar is called historically, is situated in the beautiful state of Punjab. Other places to visit includes Ram Bagh, Durgiana Temple, Pul Kanjari etc. The historical banyan tree known as the Shaheedi Bohr has four kookas erected as a memorial to four namdharis who were hanged till death for objecting the use of beef near the religious Golden Temple. The Kaliyanwala Khoo is another spot to visit in Amritsar. Not to forget the beautiful green mustard fields in villages around Amritsar, with the yellow flowers bathing in bright sunlight. This view is a favorite for shutterbugs.
The Ram Tirath Mela is held at the pilgrimage of Ram Tirath, a couple of weeks after Diwali, and is a big attraction in the city. The end of January sees Basant Panchami, which is celebrated at the Gurudwara Chheharta Sahib. The kite fight is fun to watch, and the sky wears a totally different color with colorful kites flying all around.
